We dreamers and creators are always working toward a goal or dealing with a problem; waiting and hoping for answers and breakthroughs. Along the journey to realizing our hopes and aspirations we’ll encounter opposition and setbacks, and we’ll need to be able to endure delays and disappointments. Sadly, when “life happens,” it’s tempting to give up on our dreams and creative pursuits. If we want to stay the course and fulfill our destinies, we’ll need the backing, encouragement, comfort, strength, and reassurance that comes from One greater than ourselves. To get this Divine support, we’ll need some basic training … to follow several important spiritual steps

7. Seek and Trust God for Supernatural Favor

“Surely, LORD, you bless the righteous; You surround them with Your favor as with a shield.” (Psalm 5:12 NIV)

You don’t have to be a superstar or even an especially gifted person in order to receive God’s supernatural favor. In fact, you can be the low man on the totem pole, the last in your class, or “one of the least of these my brethren” (Matthew 25:40) and still have confidence that God is in your corner. The Creator of the Universe is all about finding, loving, saving, and upholding the lost, the weak, the oppressed, and the underdog. Furthermore, He’s not a respecter of persons, regardless of their experiences, circumstances or background.

The Apostle Peter stated, “…How true it is that God does not show favoritism.” (Acts 10:34 NLT) To the contrary, the Bible is filled with examples of very ordinary people who — with the help of God — accomplished extraordinary things. God’s only requirement is your willingness to obey and your availability to be used. You just need to be a “whosoever” — as in the verse, “…God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16 KJ 2000)

Always remember that God strongly supports the whosoevers. Thank Him for also using people who may not have earthly connections, certificates or titles, a recognized ministry, or an established platform, but who nonetheless have big dreams and something of value to offer. Remember that “God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn” (Romans 11:29 NLT) and that “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion….” (Philippians 1:6 ESV)

So, what’s involved in seeking and trusting God for supernatural favor?

  • Trust the Lord to Open Doors. These “doors” can take various forms: special appointments, big promotions, unexplored avenues, untapped resources, and incredible opportunities. God asks only one thing — that you keep on knocking! He promises us whosoevers, “…Seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Mathew 7:7 NIV)

Although it takes faith and courage to knock on some of these “doors,” especially those that appear to be “barred” and jealously “guarded” by important, influential, and well-known people, the favor of God encourages us to be bold! The Lord reassures us, “See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept My Word and have not denied My name.” (Revelation 3:8 NIV)
